Bring Burning Man to the City
Imagine a Street Fair built like YOUtopia! Join us in creating a new North Park Burner Street Fair in San Diego on April 26th! SDCAP is sponsoring this new 1-day event behind The Observatory to support CoLab, art grants, and theme camps. We’re inviting artists, creators, and performers to bring a pop-up version of their theme camps or art pieces. This is a chance to share your Burning Man experience with the public. We’ll have bars, stages for performances, and opportunities to sell food, goods, and drinks. Volunteers are needed for food service, marketing, permits, safety, and more. Profits will support CoLab, SDCAP, and art grants.
Help Us Bring the Joyous Spirit of Burning Man to the Curious Public
We want you to bring a Pop-up version of your camp or art installation that can fit in a 10×10-20×20 space and be setup in 4 hours and broken-down in 2. It’s a great opportunity to trial run a smaller version of a big idea you’ve had.
We encourage you to be creative in using experiences to show the public what your camp is all about and find interesting ways to encourage them to donate by experiencing something new. Every participating theme camp/artist can offer something for sale at this event, but we also want you to share a gift for those who come to their camp without means. For example, someone selling hoops could offer a hooping workshop throughout the day. Or a camp offering free cucumber water could sell mocktails.
Fundraise For Your Camp and Community
This is a community fundraiser, but with upfront costs. SDCAP will cover the initial permits/security/fees. The idea is to divide the profits approximately as follows, but is still to be determined:
- 50% to CoLab and SDCAP
- 25% to participating artists and camps – split on undecided criteria
- 25% to Art Grants distributed to participants of BM/YT/SD Civic Projects

Volunteer and Co-create This Event With Us
Volunteers are needed to help make the event happen. If you’ve wanted to do more in the community, this is a great place to grow! This is a chance to actively contribute to a community event, with a commitment of just one day on-site and a short lead-in time.
Opportunities Include:
- Food Service Manager
- Marketing and Communications people
- Government Interfacing – Permits
- Safety/Medical/Rangers
- Theme camp and artists liaison
- Operations – build it up break it down
- Volunteer Communications and Coordination
- Financial Wrangler
This is a project of SDCAP, our community non-profit that supports CoLab and YOUtopia. It is an all-volunteer event guided by the 10-Principles of Burning Man. All profits will go back into the community. SDCAP is responsible for the fiduciary and legal aspects of the event, but the core experience will be defined by those who show-up and lead to make it happen.
